a hand resting
2008 August 28
there is a hand resting
one might say “outside of time”
but that too would be too late
and the situation forever obfuscated
it would seem the battle is lost
before it was ever begun
and we petty tyrants not overthrown
but enslaved
there is no victor
defeat is sovereign
that hand resting
instigates a breath
as readily as the blow of a fist
or a simple caress a sigh
Nicely done. To me, your poem seems to suggests that in war there is no winner. In imperial ventures, though a victory may be achieved, the nation as a whole suffers in its loss of moral standing. That may be just me though. But I like your style.
Thank you for not only taking the time to share your thoughts but your kind words as well.
From one perspective, being that political, i think yours is an accurate reading of the poem. And yet there are other notions which it may be beneficial to consider, such as that which one might refer to as a certain “metaphysical violence” of which we are all guilty, and only too unaware.
