Images from the Visionary World by Henri Michaux

November 13, 2008

Here is a link to an extraordinary 30 min. film made in 1963 by Henri Michaux and produced by the Swiss pharmaceutical company Sandoz (the makers of LSD). From the introduction:
With an extraordinary lucidity and an incredible precision, Henri Michaux succeeded in fixing in his memory various images of the visionary world which appeared to him under the influence of various hallucinogenic substances. The great scientific value of those experiences has justified the initial medical perspective of this film directed by Eric Duvivier and written by Henri Michaux. In 1963 Professor Jean Delay presented this film to the medical establishment by explaining that: “The analogy or identity of these experimental states, that can be produced and reduced in several hours, with certain states of mental alienation, is at the origin of the actual research into the pathogenic biochemistry of psychoses.”
