[Guardian] Plot was never the main point for Ozu. He once said: “Pictures with obvious plots bore me now.” […] Most lives are an accumulation of banal events, which are never banal to the people concerned: marriage, separation of children from their parents, divorce, death. Ozu shuffled these themes, like a deck of cards, in different films. (read)
